Biography

Dr. Marco Agostini is a Research Scientist in the Department of Surgical Oncology and Gastroenterological Science at the University of Padova, Padova, Italy. He previously worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology and Surgical Sciences at the University of Padova.

He received his Ph.D. in Genetic and Molecular Characterization of Cancer from the University of Padova, with a focus on genetic pathways underlying the progression and outcomes of colon cancer, as well as drug delivery system modulation.

His research focuses on the discovery of new molecular markers for the non-invasive early detection of cancer through liquid biopsies, and on identifying the roles of circulating molecular markers in tumor response and patient outcomes, particularly in rectal cancer patients undergoing pre-operative chemoradiotherapy. His work also includes circulating microRNAs and the circulating peptidome.

Dr. Agostini holds a patent for an in vitro method for the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of cancer through the analysis of body fluid samples, including total circulating DNA and DNA released by non-apoptotic cells.
