University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, USA

Biography:

Dr. Bhattacharya serves as a Physician Researcher for clinical research trials at Early Developmental Services, USA. His primary role involves overseeing study conduct and guiding procedural study management in adherence to study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

His responsibilities include participation in budget planning, investigational protocol development, and interactions with Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). He conducts study-specific medical evaluations, including detailed history and physical examinations, and assesses subject eligibility based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Dr. Bhattacharya is also responsible for interpreting medical investigations such as ECGs, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), radiographs, clinical laboratory tests, skin prick testing, and RAST. He ensures compliance with all pre-dose requirements and is present during initial dosing. He also manages adverse events (AEs) and serious adverse events (SAEs), including follow-up care and evaluation of study participants.

Additionally, he maintains communication with sponsors’ medical directors regarding study drug development, study objectives, management, and outcomes. He is actively involved in training and educating research personnel on study-specific medical and safety procedures, as well as ongoing GCP education.

His professional activities also include attending investigator meetings and site visits, reviewing research proposals, contributing to protocol development, medical writing for Phase I/II clinical trials, strategic planning, and fostering client relationships.

Agricultural University of Athens, Greece

Biography:

Evangelos Zoidis graduated in 1996 with a Diploma in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Science, Department of Biochemistry, at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. In 2000, he obtained his PhD in Natural Sciences from the same university.

He subsequently spent two and a half years (2000–2003) as a postdoctoral fellow at the University Hospital of Zurich. In 2004, he joined the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, where he worked for three years as a senior scientist. In 2008, he was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Nutritional Physiology and Feeding, Faculty of Animal Sciences and Aquaculture.

Research Interests:

His research focuses on nutritional physiology, endocrinology, and molecular metabolism. His work includes the study of phosphate, sodium, and vitamin D metabolism, as well as genetic mutations affecting these pathways.

He is also interested in the relationship between dietary interactions and the physiology and homeostasis of the skeletal and digestive systems. His research covers sodium–phosphate and glucose transport systems in both in vivo and in vitro models.

Additional areas of interest include the pituitary–endocrine axis, particularly growth hormone and IGF-I function; gene and protein expression and cloning; endopeptidases and membrane isoenzymes and their regulation; and the metabolism, function, and gene expression of selenium and selenoproteins.
