Biography

Dr. Taro Shimizu completed his residency in Biology in South China in 2000 and subsequently served as a Chief Medical Assistant. In 2003, he gained recognition for his outstanding performance at Sun Yat-Sen University, one of the leading teaching institutions, where he was regarded as one of the top residents of his time.

In the same year, he worked as a Project Manager at Hutchison Whampoa Guangzhou Baiyunshan Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd., PR China, until 2005. He then pursued a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics, aligning his research with his clinical experience.

He has received several prestigious awards, including the Second National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, the Fudan University & Dechuan Award for Excellent Teachers, and the ACPS–Sanofi Biotherapeutics Young Scientist Award. Since 2003, he has been actively involved in research and teaching in both academic and hospital settings.

Dr. Shimizu was also appointed as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, San Diego, USA, from 2014 to 2015. He earned his doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Pharmaceutics from Fudan University, PR China. He is currently working on targeted drug delivery systems.

Biography

Michiko Yamamoto is a Professor of Education at the Center for Clinical Pharmacy Practice, Faculty of Pharmacy, Showa Pharmaceutical University, Japan. She received her Ph.D. from Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 2005.

She has also served at the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA). From 2011 to 2012, she was a Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Suzuka University of Medical Science, Japan. In 2013, she joined Showa Pharmaceutical University.

She is an active member of several professional societies, including the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, the Japanese Society for Pharmacoepidemiology, the Japanese Society for Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences, the Japanese Society of Social Pharmacy, and the Japanese Society of Drug Information.

Biography

Dr. Daekyu Sun is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Arizona, USA. He completed his Ph.D. in Pharmacy in 1993 and subsequently undertook postdoctoral training at the College of Pharmacy, University of Texas at Austin.

From 1995 to 2002, Dr. Sun worked at the Cancer Therapy Research Center (CTRC) in San Antonio, Texas, where he served as a Research Scientist and Assistant Member. Since 2008, he has been serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.

He received the Independent Research Support and Transition Award from the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, in 1998, and the United States–Israel Binational Science Foundation Research Award in 2000. He has been an active member of the American Association for Cancer Research since 1995 and the American Chemical Society since 2009.

Dr. Sun has authored more than 50 publications in international journals.

Biography

Hale Zerrin Toklu graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 1998. She obtained her M.S. degree in 2001 and her Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 2006. She was granted tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2011.

Since 2013, she has been working at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She has received more than 10 scientific awards and has published over 50 articles in prestigious journals. She serves as a reviewer for more than 30 journals and as an editor for three journals.

 Guangrui Yang

Biography

Dr. Guangrui Yang received his M.D. from the Second Military Medical University and his Ph.D. in Pathophysiology from Peking University, China. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Utah, where he identified important roles of PPARγ, a prostaglandin J2 receptor and antidiabetic drug target, in the regulation of circadian rhythms.

He is currently a Research Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics (ITMAT) at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the interplay between circadian rhythms and prostaglandin signaling in cardiovascular pharmacology. He also serves as an editor and reviewer for several scientific journals.

Pharmacology, circadian rhythms, prostaglandins, cardiovascular diseases, aging, and metabolism.

Pamela Elizabeth Potter

Biography

Dr. Pamela Potter is currently Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, Midwestern University, Glendale, Arizona, USA. She received her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and subsequently trained as a Fogarty International Fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health.

Dr. Potter served as an Assistant and later Associate Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Neurosurgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. She joined Midwestern University in 1997 as an Associate Professor, was promoted to Professor in 2001, and became Chair of Pharmacology in 2005.

She has maintained an active research career, with publications and National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding primarily focused on neurotransmitter release and signaling dysfunction in models of Alzheimer’s disease. She currently serves as a grant reviewer for the Alzheimer’s Association and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as a reviewer for several scientific journals.

Biography

Dr. Victor Andreev is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, USA. He also serves as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at the Center for Computational Sciences, University of Miami.

He earned his Ph.D. from St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Russia, and his Doctor of Sciences degree from the Russian Academy of Sciences. He has published 58 peer-reviewed papers and authored three book chapters, and has more than 20 years of teaching experience.

Dr. Andreev has served on the editorial boards of Talanta (The International Journal of Pure and Applied Analytical Chemistry) from 2001 to 2005 and Nauchnoe Priborostroenie (Scientific Instrumentation, Russia) from 1995 to 2001. He is also an ad hoc reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Proteome Research, The Pharmacogenomics Journal, Molecular Psychiatry, Analytical Chemistry, Talanta, and Electrophoresis. He has been a member of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry since 2001.

He has received numerous awards, including the Giessen Memorial Award in Advanced Research (Northeastern University, Boston, 2002), a Fellowship from the Cariplo Foundation (Landau Network–Centro Volta, Italy, 2001), the Honorary Award of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow, 1999), the Joliot Professorship Fellowship (École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie, Paris, France, 1998), and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship (USIA, Washington, DC, USA, 1995).

Bioinformatics, proteomics, pharmacoproteomics, pharmacogenomics, and systems biology of mental disorders, metabolic syndrome, immune disorders, and aging; intracellular transport; computational biology; and signal processing algorithms.

Richard L Slaughter

Biography

Professor Slaughter received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati in 1975 and completed his M.S. degree and residency in Hospital Pharmacy at The Ohio State University in 1977. He began his academic career at the University at Buffalo, where he helped develop one of the first applied clinical pharmacokinetic services in the United States at Buffalo General Hospital.

In 1989, he assumed the position of Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS), Wayne State University. From 2002 to 2009, he served as Assistant Dean for Assessment and Accreditation at EACPHS, and since 2009, he has been the Associate Dean for the Pharmacy Program at EACPHS.

He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts in areas related to pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapeutics, evaluation of clinical pharmacy services, and academic assessment, with more than 1,000 citations. He served on the Editorial Board of the Annals of Pharmacotherapy as Chair of the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Panel from 2003 to 2011 and is currently a member of the editorial board of Expert Reviews in Clinical Pharmacology. He also maintains active international collaborations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Cape Town, South Africa.

Evaluation of the impact of healthcare services on cost and quality of care; applied pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; and assessment and evaluation of health science–related programs.

Xiaochao Ma, PhD

Biography

Dr. Ma received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology in 2003 from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 2004 to 2008, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Frank Gonzalez’s laboratory at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

In 2008, Dr. Ma joined the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The long-term goal of his research is to improve the safety of anti-tuberculosis and anti-HIV chemotherapy. He has published nearly 40 scientific papers and review articles, and his research is supported by the NIH.


Research Interests

Role of xenobiotic nuclear receptors in drug metabolism; metabolism-mediated liver injury; and in vivo functions of human PXR and CYP3A4.
