Professional Biography
I am affiliated with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mie University Graduate School of Medicine, located in Tsu City, Mie, Japan. I graduated from Mie University School of Medicine and subsequently obtained my Ph.D. from Mie University.
My clinical and research expertise focuses on hip arthroplasty, knee arthroplasty, biomaterials, and biochemical markers. My research interests also include matricellular proteins, particularly tenascin, as well as cartilage biology.
Since 1997, I have published 81 papers in international peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Jeremy Mao is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Orthopedics, and Dental Medicine at Columbia University and holds the Edwin S. Robinson Endowed Chair at Columbia University Medical Center.
He is the author of multiple books, including “Translational Approaches in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.” His research interests include stem cell biology, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine.
Dr. Mao has published over 172 scientific articles in leading journals, including Nature Medicine, The Lancet, and Cell Stem Cell. He has delivered more than 330 keynote and plenary lectures worldwide.
His work is funded by multiple NIH grants and other agencies. Dr. Mao’s research has been translated into medical products approved by the FDA and currently in therapeutic use, benefiting millions of patients.

Donna Mahoney, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and core faculty member in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (ISPP). She has been teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses for thirteen years.
She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work from the Institute for Clinical Social Work (2000) and completed advanced training at the Institute for Psychoanalysis (2001). She received her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University in 1989.
Dr. Mahoney has taught courses in adult development, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, self psychology, couples and family counseling, psychopathology, ethics and law, and theories and treatment of anxiety. Her private practice, located in Barrington, Illinois, specializes in the treatment of anxiety-related disorders and phobias. She has extensive clinical experience spanning over twenty-six years.
Among her presentations on anxiety-related topics, a version of her published article, “Panic Disorder and Self-States: Clinical and Research Illustrations,” was presented at the International Conference for the Psychology of the Self in 1999. Another paper, “An Integrative Approach Using Qualitative Analysis to Conceptualizing and Treating Complex Trauma,” was presented at the American Association of Behavioral and Social Sciences Conference (February 9, 2015) and was accepted for publication in the Journal of Psychoanalytic Social Work in September 2015.
Additionally, Dr. Mahoney serves on the executive committee of the Chicago Association for Psychoanalytic Psychologists (CAPP) and is on the editorial board of numerous journals. She also works as a consultant to clinicians seeking to broaden their clinical repertoire in treating anxiety, childhood fears, and phobias.
Her additional interests include the theoretical and clinical integration of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral interventions.

My name is Malek G. Massad. I am the Sara Smart Mansueto Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago.
I graduated from the American University of Beirut School of Medicine in 1983. I completed my general surgery residency at the University of Illinois, followed by a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. I also completed research fellowships in thoracic organ transplantation at Northwestern University and in cardiovascular neurobiology at the Cleveland Clinic Research Institute. This was followed by a clinical fellowship in heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at the Cleveland Clinic.
I joined the faculty of the Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois in 1996 and was promoted to Professor with tenure in 2006.
I have been named one of America’s Top Heart Surgeons by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. I have also been listed in Castle Connolly’s Guide to America’s Top Doctors for ten consecutive years and in Chicago Magazine’s list of Best Doctors in Thoracic Surgery.
I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
