<p>Dr. Aron Michael Devane has been a practicing radiologist at Prisma Health–Upstate for more than 16 years and serves as the Medical Director of Interventional Radiology at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. He is also the Vice-Chair for Academics and a research facilitator for the radiology department. In addition, he is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, an Associate Editor of the journal <em>Prisma Health–Upstate Proceedings</em>, and a member of the Prisma Health–Upstate Cancer Care Committee.</p><p>Dr. Devane’s research focuses on interdisciplinary, radiology-related medicine. He has played a key role in implementing an implantable PORT comparative effectiveness study as the principal investigator and supervisor of Clemson graduate students.</p><p>In collaboration with the Department of Public Health Sciences at Clemson University, Dr. Devane and a team of researchers are investigating outcomes of central venous ports placed by Interventional Radiology and Surgery. He serves as the representative from the Department of Interventional Radiology in this research effort and is also involved in additional projects related to radiology and public health.</p><p>He has also contributed to a research project involving the Departments of Radiology and Gastroenterology at Prisma Health–Upstate, investigating ultrasound elastography and the FibroSure serum test. This study assessed hepatic fibrosis in patients with hypoplastic right heart syndrome following the Fontan procedure. Dr. Devane served as a lead investigator alongside Gary Abrams, MD.</p><p class="ql-align-justify">Dr. Devane has co-authored seven posters presented at scientific meetings, as well as research podcasts and multiple publications in scientific journals.</p>

<h2><strong>Biography</strong></h2><p><strong>Héctor R. Díaz Águila</strong>, MD, graduated in Medicine from the <strong>University of Havana</strong> in 1974. He has served as a professor at the Teaching Polyclinic “Idalberto Revuelta” in Sagua la Grande, Villa Clara, Cuba.</p><p>He is a Second-Degree Specialist in Intensive Care Medicine and Emergencies, as well as in Internal Medicine, and holds a Master’s degree in Medical Emergencies. He is an Associate Professor at the <strong>Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara</strong>.</p><p>Dr. Díaz Águila is a member of the governing board of the Cuban Society of Intensive Care and Emergencies. He has served as Executive Editor of the <em>Revista Cubana de Medicina Intensiva y Emergencias</em> and as an external guest editor for several journals, including <em>Gaceta Médica Espirituana</em>, <em>Medicina Intensiva</em>, <em>Medwave</em>, <em>Medicentro Electrónica</em>, <em>MediSur</em>, <em>Archivos Médicos de Camagüey</em>, <em>Revista Habanera de Ciencias Médicas</em>, and the <em>Journal of Medical Case Reports</em>.</p><p>He is also a professor at the Virtual Health University of Cuba. <p><strong>Richard Kones, MD</strong>, began his career as a mathematically inclined chemical engineer before attending the <strong>New York University School of Medicine</strong> in a special pilot program. Inspired by a mentor in the Department of Physiology, he conducted independent research on aldosterone using a novel technique and became a full member of the <strong>New York Academy of Sciences</strong> while still in medical school.</p><p>He completed his medical training in New York and then pursued an NIH fellowship in cardiology at the <strong>Tulane University School of Medicine</strong>, where he also worked at Charity Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in New Orleans. He later returned to <strong>New York Medical College</strong> to continue research on the actions of inotropic agents, myocardial function, preservation of ischemic myocardium, and cardiogenic shock, eventually relocating to Texas.</p><p>An avid supporter of the application of biochemistry and physiology to clinical medicine, Dr. Kones has continued teaching and publishing, with a strong emphasis on translational research. In addition to delivering presentations and lectures, he has mentored medical students and house staff at several medical schools and affiliated hospitals.</p><p>Over time, his interests expanded to include the role of pathological signaling in the pathogenesis of atherothrombosis, particularly the interaction of inflammatory mechanisms, endothelial dysfunction, mitochondrial involvement in disease, lipid metabolism, and metabolic syndrome, along with related evidence-based interventions to improve clinical outcomes. Fundamental mechanisms in molecular and cellular cardiology have remained central to his work, as has the practical importance of simple lifestyle and dietary changes as powerful tools for reducing risk factors.</p><p>Throughout his academic career, Dr. Kones has received numerous scholarships, awards, and grants. His work includes publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, books, presentations, and lectures. He has served on committees in various medical organizations, reviewed manuscripts for more than 80 medical journals, and volunteered in mentoring programs for the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and the <strong>American Heart Association</strong>.</p><p>His biography has appeared in multiple editions of <em>Who’s Who</em> and other registries. At its inception, he was appointed a founding editor of <strong>Medpedia</strong>, a collaborative educational initiative among several medical schools, and served as a board member on committees for cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, and nutrition. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of <em>Research Reports in Clinical Cardiology</em> and is a member of the editorial boards of several other journals.</p><p>Dr. Kones is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the <strong>European Society of Cardiology</strong>, the <strong>Royal Society of Medicine</strong>, the Royal Society of Public Health, and a Founding Fellow of the <strong>American Geriatrics Society</strong>. He is also affiliated with numerous professional organizations, including the European Heart Rhythm Association, Acute Cardiovascular Care Association, Heart Rhythm Society, and Heart Failure Association.</p><p>He is an emeritus member of the <strong>American Physiological Society</strong>, a member of The Physiological Society (London), and the International Union of the Physiological Sciences. He serves as a Full Professor of Psychopathology and Clinical Psychology at the <strong>European University of Rome</strong>.</p><p>Dr. Farina is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the <strong>International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation</strong>, and has served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Italian Society of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
